PostSubject: Forgiveness   Tue Jul 08, 2008 7:32 pm

How hard or easy do you find it to forgive?

Can you forgive anything? We hear of mothers of murdered children forgiving the murderer to enable them to 'move on' not forget, but just to ease their suffering a little.

What would you forgive and what wouldn't you forgive?

Have your thoughts on forgiveness altered since you became more spiritually aware?

I almost vomited watching the news the other night, I had to leave the room. It was all about animal cruelty, if I ever see that woman and her mate who filmed it i'll do time for them.

Okay... I'm gonna get controversial here... (rolls up sleeves, takes a deep breath...)

I think forgiveness is an essential part of spiritual growth and development.

I believe we are all ultimately one, therefore the ultimate goal is unity, which cannot come without forgiveness.

Does that mean it's easy? Hell no!

The thing that's got me through this thorny issue is remembering to separate the deed from the doer. This allows you to forgive the person, without feeling like you have condoned their actions. I abhor cruelty and violence of any kind, and it's taken me years to learn to not to fall into the same traps of hate that lead people to committing hateful actions, by hating those people for doing them!!!!!

In addition to this, I always try to remember that every one of us is a product of our own personal lives and experiences. I would like to hope that if I had lived the exact same life as someone who has done something hurtful, or even wicked, that I would have acted differently... but I can't know that.

I'm not excusing people for doing terrible things... far from it. I condemn the actions, and the situations that have led to those actions, but not the person themselves. I forgive... by sending them love and light, in the hope that some of that positivity may reach them, and pierce the clouds of negativity that have gotten them lost in the first place.

Forgiveness is a crucial part of spiritual growth. I certainly believe in forgiveness.
If you do not show this then you will only limit your growth.
Does not matter who has done what it is part of learning, and usually part of human nature that causes the problem in the first instance.
It is usually down to personal stubborness that you can not forgive and also not seeing things from another humans perspective.

I find it quite easy to forgive but I never forget.
There are some things that I don't think should be forgiven but I always try to see it from all angles.

I did fine forgetting the very hard part but I can only assure you to advance you need to live for the here and now and not dwell on the past at all.
What is past has passed

I have to admit that I sometimes find it quite difficult to forgive.

I can usually forgive someone at the time, or shortly after they've done something, but I have difficulty forgetting what they've done. Then, when I remember it again, I've got to go through another process of making the effort to forgive them.

And especially if they keep on doing what they're doing, without any thought for others, I keep thinking "how many times must I keep forgiving them!"

You must forgive them as it is usually their own ignorance. I will be perfectly frank that forgiveness is essential for personal growth and I say that most sincerely.
I have had some terrible things happen to me and have found it very hard to dig deep but I have done it.
I can only put that down to their own insecurities. sunny

I can forgive things but i dont forget. Not in a grudge kinda way but its just there, in my memory.
I must say though, people like those monsters that did those things to Baby P for example, totally unforgiveable. I dont think they deserve forgiveness. Be it animals or children i find that hard to forgive and to be perfectly honest i dont think i would try to forgive them. Monsters they are.
As for mothers that forgive their childrens murderers, i totally admire them i really do, it must take so much to do that. Being a mother myself though, the thought of someone attacking my boy and leaving him to die alone crying for me on a dirty stairwell is just horrific, its every mothers worst nightmare. And although i could never really know until im in that situation, God forbid, right now i just feel i couldnt possibly forgive. I hope that doesnt make me small minded or bad or anything, and maybe after time i could, but to be honest im not sure id be able to

I am sorry Carly but I find this very hard to pass a comments as God forgives everybody and I have seen some truly wonderful people that have forgiven muderers that have killed their children and this comes down to me personally as faith.( as with others also)
I think when these people age some of these people are truly repentant of their sins but some are not but unfortunately that is a pure factor of life as humans down here know it. confused

Oh most definitely i would, it would be the way he was taken that would be the hard thing to deal with, it would be the "Why did they have to hurt him?" and "Why did he have to go like this?" that would be the thing for me and no matter how hard i tried i would find it very difficult to be able to say "I forgive that person" maybe time would be the key, maybe after a while that concept would be easier but certainly not initially

You would be forgiving yourself and others at the same time Carly. You react to people in the first instance by other ways be it rudeness or ignorance and to be honest the best way to deal with it is to talk to the person and you can then see from their angle too which makes the process of forgiveness much easier.
