Red sky at night , shepherds delieght
Red sky in the morning shepherds warning .

do you beleive this
because it says that it will be nice the next day, and in the morning its the reverse.
(apparrantly its to do with the pressure systems)

when dew is on the grass, rain will never come to pass & when its dry in morning light, look for rain before night.

according to the farmers almanac these have been scientificallly proven; Dew only forms when its clear still late nights & early mornings, which suggests that a dewy lawn could forcast a clear day.
when grass is dry or has no dew this usualy means the sky has black clouds or the wind has picked up - both of which are indicators of a storm on the way.
Hadnt thought about this one before but thinking about it it is true, what do you think. scratch

PostSubject: mackerel   Wed Aug 27, 2008 1:43 pm

Mare's tails and mackerel scales make tall ships carry low sails, was a warning heeded by sailors through the ages, but both of these in fact are in fact nick names for clouds.

Mare's tails are cirrus cloudsd found high in the atmosphere, which are infact pulled into long streamers resembling the tail of a horse. Mackerel scales are altocumulus clouds which look like fish scales.

Both are present just before bad weather, so if a sailor noticed these he would no that within 12-36 hoursd the weather would be to rough out in open water, so he would lower his ails & head for dry land.

PostSubject: rain   Wed Aug 27, 2008 1:49 pm

Although it may be wishful thinking the adage rain at 7 clear by 11, mighten be just an attempt to hope the rain stops.

as infact most frontal weather systems that cause bad weather in Britain will pas over in 4 hrs,

am sure you all can find some others. :hug1:
